Red Hawk Down

Spent much of Tuesday working in the orchard on our property.  We have an acre or so of Asian Pear trees in four varieties.  Harvest is late August through early October and the fruit is a rare treat.

Sadly, I found the fresh remains of a redtail hawk, dead of no apparent cause.  I took him out of his resting place in the field so the ants wouldn’t invade.  We photographed his beautiful winged form this morning before calling the Department of Fish and Game.

As amazing as this bird is up close, I’d much rather seem him in flight.
